PSS members who reach their MBL must stop paying PSS contributions. Employers also need to stop paying employer productivity superannuation contributions (EPSC) towards these memberships, however they will keep paying employer superannuation contributions (ESC). We regularly advise employers of members who are about to, or who have already reached, their MBL.
PSS MBLs are indexed to movements in the average weekly ordinary time earnings (AWOTE) index. The MBLs that apply from 1 July 2011 for the 2011/12 financial year are:
| Average salary for superannuation | Maximum benefit |
|---|---|
| Less than $60,000 | $600,000 |
| $60,000 and over | 10 x average salary |
(Note: different MBLs may apply to members of the Australian Federal Police.)
