Maximum Benefit Limits

Members who attain their PSS Maximum Benefit Limit (MBL) must stop paying PSS contributions. Employers must also stop paying Employer Productivity Superannuation Contributions (EPSC) towards these memberships, however they will keep paying Employer Superannuation Contributions (ESC). We provide regular advice to employers of members who are about to, or who have already attained, their MBL.

PSS Maximum Benefit Limits are indexed to movements in the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) index. The MBLs that will apply from 1 July 2008 for the 2008/2009 financial year are as follows:

Average salary for superannuation Maximum benefit
Less than $52,000.00 $520,000.00
$52,000.00 and over

10 × average salary

(Note: different MBLs may apply to members of the Australian Federal Police.)
